Upper Lake

Welcome to Upper Lake. Established n 1854, the town has had a succession of storefronts throughout it's long history.

Formerly, streets were lined with butcher shops, clothing stores ,bakeries, saloons, restaurants, hardware stores, ice cream parlors, as well as pharmacies. Today, this town has grown up. A face lift, this completed in 2010 – including  Victorian-style street lights, an exquisite town arch, and a new town clock – has revived the town. A new generation of shopkeepers, innkeepers, and restaurateurs all have an eye toward preserving the rich history of this pioneer town. What was once a stagecoach stop along the Sacramento to Mendocino route now includes the restored Tallman Hotel and a re-created Blue Wing Saloon Restaurant. Concerts with Conversation and an annual Blues Festival in August are found at the Tallman/Blue Wing site. Lake County Wine Studio features monthly artists’ shows with music and local wine and food pairing. All businesses showcase historical integrity, which offers visitors the opportunity for a luxurious-overnight stay, delicious meals, a  wine tasting bar and shopping on Main Street. Come, stay, explore, and find antiques and collectibles from around the world, clothing, Native American arts, pet supplies, gifts and original local works of art. Upper Lake Mercantile opened in mid-2014 by  the Town Clock  on Main Street. A good addition to the eclectic mix of businesses on Main Street in Upper Lake, the Mercantile is a sister business to the Tallman Hotel and Blue Wing Saloon.  A picturesque lighted parade down Main Street takes place on the first Saturday evening of December, followed by a tree lighting ceremony, caroling and fun for everyone.
